The capital island is the picturesque Rarotonga, located in the southern region of the group. Further north is Aitutaki Lagoon, one of the most instantly recognisable lagoons in the world and a jewel in the Cook Islands crown. It is easily accessed by air from Rarotonga, with daily flights providing stunning views of the lagoon as you descend to the airstrip on the north of Aitutaki Island.
